Nutrition
is the relationship of food to the health of the human body More than two thousand years ago, Hippocrates advocated: "Let food be your medicine and let medicine be your food." The typical modern Western diet leads people to being overfed and undernourished. Modern diets, relying heavily on processed convenience foods, hurried snacks, and overcooked meals, which can lack sufficient vitamins, minerals, phytochemicals, and fibre essential for fitness and good health. Without access to abundant, good-quality nutrients, our bodies cannot function properly. Further, the stresses of modern life, lack of exercise, and over-indulgence in stimulants (such as alcohol, nicotine, caffeine) can all contribute to impaired health. |
